How can Restorative Justice Mediation Help?

  1. Restorative justice is a "natural partner" with community policing, both emphasize problem solving and viewing the big picture. This is a proven way to help victims gain closure and healing.
  2. Reduces victim and community fearfulness.
  3. Reduces recidivism.
  4. Places police in a positive light with the victim movement.
  5. Referring cases to victim-offender mediation get the police back on patrol faster (in minor cases) and will likely reduce court time in more difficult cases.
  6. Restorative justice offers a common umbrella under which many disciplines and the community can work together for public safety.
  7. Gives the offender a clear way to take full responsibility for their crime, reducing police and corrections control issues.
  8. Strengthens the community. The community provides support for victims and hold offenders accountable.
